Happy Birthday Kate!

We could enhance the fact that, in a world in which, more than in any other, youth and beauty have a key role, Kate Moss' ability to preserve both seems somewhat devilish. But that would be be reductive: youth and beauty are surely prerequisites a model needs to have to reach global success, yet Kate's influence on the style of women all over the world, from her debut in the 90s to present day, cannot be reduced to her ability to look stunning in any light, any pose, at any age or weight.

Being still marketable in the fashion world at 37 (her birthday is January 16th) is something very few models can achieved, especially without assuming the too-rigid and constantly astonished pose of those who have received a little help from modified toxins. Yet she is still around and still knows how to make any piece she wears iconic: from rubber boots with shorts at the Glastonbury festival to fur cropped jackets.

Catwalks and magazines get crowded with wafer-thin young girls imported en masse from the East, but she is still there and it is almost impossible to establish what is it that makes her the ultimate embodiment of her time, yet regardless of time. Without, besides, making any radical changes in her look: for the last twenty years she has always worn her hair long, with natural or no makeup, a cigarette dangling from her lips and that adorable, slanted girlie smile. Looking always the same yet, as if by magic, or is it just her skill?, looking different every time.
